Just Adetoun Apologizes and Offers Financial Aid to Struggling Mother After Backlash [Video]

Activist Just Adetoun has publicly apologized and extended financial support to a struggling mother after facing backlash for shaming her in a viral video.

The controversy erupted when Adetoun shared footage of a woman and her 11-year-old daughter working as street sweepers at 4 a.m., condemning the situation as child labor. However, her approach drew criticism, with many accusing her of humiliating the mother instead of offering help.  

In response to the outrage, Adetoun visited the woman’s home to personally apologize, admitting that her method of addressing the issue may have seemed harsh. She emphasized that her intention was to advocate for the child’s welfare, not to attack the family’s struggles.  

Deeply moved by the mother’s hardships, Adetoun took concrete action by pledging a monthly stipend to supplement the woman’s meager salary of ₦19,500. A video of the emotional visit captured the mother’s gratitude and Adetoun’s heartfelt regret.  

Sharing the update on Instagram, she wrote:  “APOLOGIES ON HOW YOU ALL SAW THE VIDEO. I knew something was wrong, but the right of the child was most important. She comes all the way from inside Oworo to Ikoyi just for ₦19,500 monthly 😢😢😢😢😢. MY INTENTION WAS CLEAR IN MY CAPTION.”  

Her gesture has reignited online discussions, with some commending her for taking responsibility, while others remain skeptical, accusing her of damage control.
